TV no picture repair
TV has sound but no picture? Here's the fix and the price
Check this first (30 seconds)
- Switch the TV on and wait until you hear sound.
- Shine your phone torch at the screen from 5 cm away and look closely.
- Faint image visible? The backlight has failed — this is the most common fault in LED TVs 3–7 years old.
- Nothing at all, even with the torch? It may be the T-con board, main board or panel. We test these on-site.
Also try another input (HDMI 1 vs 2) and the TV's own menu button. If the menu shows but your set-top box doesn't, it's an input or cable problem, not a repair.
Why LED backlights fail
LED TVs are lit by strips of small LEDs behind the screen, wired in series. When one LED burns out, the whole strip goes dark — and the picture disappears while sound keeps playing. Heat and long daily use make it more common after the third or fourth year.
How we fix it
We open the TV, separate the panel layers in a dust-controlled way, replace all backlight strips (not just the dead one, so the next one doesn't fail next month), and reassemble. On most 32–65″ TVs this takes 1.5–2.5 hours at your home.
Is it worth repairing?
For 43″ and bigger TVs under 8 years old, yes in most cases — a new strip set costs a fraction of a replacement TV. For small 32″ sets, we'll tell you honestly if buying new makes more sense.
